Abstract

Modern personal computer memory includes several microchips placed on the one circuit board (module). There is Read Only Memory (ROM) always presented in every module. ROM is needed for storing data that has to be stored and used without any changes.

As a rule, the ROM module contains computer software responsible for loading the operating system while the PC is switching on.

The main ROM microchip containing the main BIOS code, places on the motherboard. BIOS subprograms and drivers, required to activate and start all the system components, are located on the adapter card.

It goes without saying that chips ROM placed in the Random Access Memory (RAM) module, have to be fully compatible with the motherboard of Brand Name class devices. Being used mostly in brand computers, Kingston and Transcend memory cards for laptop and PC fully meet the requirements listed above.

Today the most common RAM in laptops and stationary PC is Dynamic Random Access Memory (DRAM). DRAM chip divides in a DDR, DDR2 and DDR3 type. Rarely EDO and FPM memory is used in Brand Name devices.

RAM cars for laptopHigh-speed performance of the laptop, wide range of features for users, power-consuming games - everything directly depends on the built-in Random Access Memory (RAM).

It's recommended to use 4 Gb or more for comfort operating with OS Windows 7 if you work in particular applications.

Almost all modern laptop models allow to widen memory by means of using additional slots. Some models also provide up to 16Gb of RAM.

Upgrading a Macbook Pro

Tuesday 17 April 2012 at 2:23 pm

If you're of the mindset that a Macbook Pro can't have its hardware upgraded, you're in for a surprise - for a surprisingly reasonable sum, you can double your hard-drive space and your RAM, giving you a space and performance boost that you're probably going to enjoy, somewhat! So, why should you consider upgrading, and what should you look for?

RAM

With RAM, you're increasing the amount of memory the Macbook Pro has available while running all the tasks you've set it, whether actively or just by having the computer on and running. Anything from music editing software, to Photoshop, to the browser you're emailing from and playing Partypoker.com will feel a little smoother and more capable with a RAM boost.

Macbook Pros will already have 4GB in RAM

Ideally, a lot of Macbook Pros will already have 4GB in RAM, and models that are around a couple years old or newer (from 2010, if you're reading this in the far future on your iPad 19) will accept 8GB - that is, two sticks (a descriptive term for a RAM board) of 4GB, rather than the two sticks of 2GB. Don't pay through the nose! These shouldn't cost you a three-figure sum if you're shopping in the right places. On to the hard drive.

RAM for Mac mini

Friday 17 February 2012 at 9:11 pm

RAM for Mac miniThe Other World Computing company started selling the RAM modules for Mac mini models released five months ago.

Previously there was written in the official specifications of Apple that new Mac mini models were to operate with memory modules of the overall maximum volume of 8 Gb.

However,  already today you may buy modules of 16 Gb from Other World Computing, herewith, the company guarantees their normal performance.

Hybrid Memory Cube

Friday 17 February 2012 at 8:19 pm

Hybrid Memory CubeTwo giants of the memory manufacture - IBM and Micron Technology - are going to launch series production of the principally new memory.

The CMOS interlayer connection technology - through-silicon via, TSV – is to be applied in the memory for the first time.

The name of the memory is HMC (Hybrid Memory Cube).

These RAM chips are to be released at the conference of Intel designers in September, 2012.

It is joint working of Intel and Micron, IBM worked on the TSV technology.

All the details and nuances about this work IBM is going to tell at the IEEE International Electron Devices Meeting conference on December, 5.
